4 HVAC Emergencies to Take Seriously

What is an HVAC emergency? Sure, this might seem like a simple question. However, it’s one that some homeowners might find confusing. After all, it’s only normal to question whether any unusual behavior that a home’s heating and cooling system exhibits justifies immediate attention.

Here are some of the most common HVAC emergencies that should be taken seriously and must be addressed as soon as possible.

1. Refrigerant Leaks

To effectively cool your home, a typical air conditioning system uses refrigerant, a chemical mixture that absorbs heat. However, with time, very small amounts of refrigerant may leak from the unit. This will be obvious since your air conditioner will struggle to distribute conditioned air around your home. It’s possible that the air vents are even producing warm air. The refrigerant pipelines and condenser should also be checked. A refrigerant leak is indicated by the buildup of ice on these parts.

2. Gas Leaks

A gas leak is most likely the HVAC issue that needs the greatest attention. You should constantly look for leaks if your heating system is powered by natural gas. This issue typically occurs when the gas line is damaged or disconnected and is preceded by the smell of gas or rotten eggs. To minimize instances of gas leaks, you should plan routine inspections and preventative maintenance visits with your local heating and air condition service provider and make urgent repairs for your peace of mind.

3. Electrical Problems

Manufacturing flaws and incorrect wiring could lead to HVAC malfunction. In case the unit stops working all of a sudden, check the circuit breaker first if it tripped. If that’s the case, then it’s likely the electrical connections inside the HVAC system have problems. If it can’t turn on, or you start to notice an odor of burnt wire, get in touch with your local technician immediately.

4. Complete System Failure

Sometimes, your furnace or AC may stop working in the midst of extreme temperatures. This is a bad thing, especially in both the winter and summer seasons. With either HVAC system out of commission, your home would feel uncomfortable. Not only that, but your household may experience health problems. As soon as complete system failure occurs, never delay — call your local HVAC contractor right away.
