Have Your Air Ducts Sealed if You Notice These 3 Signs

The air ducts are an integral part of residential HVAC design because, without them, conditioned air can’t be distributed smoothly and efficiently throughout your home. With this in mind, take proactive measures that ensure your air ducts can remain in good shape. If they’ve developed leaks, for example, have them sealed immediately.

You should invest in professional duct sealing once you notice these warning signs.

Uneven Indoor Temperatures

When the ductwork has a leak, it prevents hot or cold air from reaching certain areas in your home. Conditioned air will escape via the holes in the ductwork instead, blowing into areas that don’t actually require heating and cooling, such as the attic and crawl space. To prevent inconsistent temperature inside your home, make sure that conditioned air is sent where it needs to be – and this means having these leaks in the ductwork sealed ASAP.

Dust Accumulation

The ductwork typically runs through the unconditioned spaces inside your home – and these areas are not always the cleanest. If the ducts have holes, there’s no stopping dust and other harmful particles from getting inside and being circulated throughout your home. This can lead to poor indoor air quality. If you notice excess dust gathering near the vents and registers or if you’re experiencing allergy symptoms (such as coughing, sneezing and watery eyes), a duct leak may be the culprit.

Increased Energy Bills

Leaky air ducts can cause your HVAC to work overtime. In its struggle to bring your home to the desired temperature, the system will consume a significant amount of energy. Does it seem like your monthly bills are higher than what’s expected this season? You might want to have your ducts inspected. And if it turns out that they have a leak, make sure the issue is dealt with immediately.
